What is a ceilidh?

Traditionally it’s a gathering of friends and family where may people contribute to the entertainment by way of song, poetry, dance or anything else really.  Nowadays it’s associated with a formal, or informal, celebration where a ceilidh band provides the music and helps guests through ceilidh dances.  There is no better way to mix up a crowd and involve everyone in a truly unique and special experience.

What times do you play for?

Early PA set up for ceremony and/or drinks reception – This can be used for any background playlists along with microphones for speeches.  This has the added benefit of reducing the sound check time for the band, and avoids the band setting up in and around guests etc.  However this may not be an issue depending on your venue set up.

Drinks reception and ceremony music – Every situation if different so please get in touch to formulate a plan.

What happens if nobody knows what to do?

Kilter is the best band around when it comes to calling dances.  The band has experience in every conceivable situation.  Whether numbers are big or small Kilter knows how to get everyone up and ceilidhing, and having a great laugh along the way.

Where will you travel to?

Kilter covers the whole of the UK and occasionally abroad.   Kilter has played weddings and events in Germany, Switzerland, France and Mauritius.  They’re more than happy to add to that list.

How long do you need to set up?

Kilter always give 1 hour for load in, set up and sound check.   This often works in conjunction with the venue room turnaround.  However if required Kilter can set up earlier in the day for a slick transition if the event/venue/client requires.

How do I confirm my booking?

Once basic details have been agreed (date and venue).  Kilter will send over a deposit invoice outlining anything that’s been agreed and including general terms and conditions.  Payment confirms the booking, finer details can be arranged closer to the event date in line with your own planning timescale.

What kind of music do you play?

We play fantastic Scottish and Irish tunes, which we play in a really energetic, modern and fun way.

Do you have your own PA & lighting?

Kilter has a excellent PA system, comfortably big enough for most venues up to around a 300 capacity.  If a PA is set up early in the day, Kilter can provide radio mics for speeches and device cables for playlists.

Kilter uses coloured flood lights on the band when playing ceilidh, additional it has flashing and twisting lights for the DJ set.

What does the DJ package entail?

The DJ package is a brilliant way of giving your guests the perfect mix of ceilidh and disco music. Normally the DJ comes to finish the night for the last hour or so, but we can be flexible with this. We encourage our clients to send us a list of 25-30 tracks that we will aim to include in the set, and it also gives us a good idea of the sort of music you’re into too! We mix the tracks using industry leading DJ equipment.

Can we come and hear you live before booking?

Sometimes it is possible, it would have to be with clients/venues permission for the event in question.  However, we hope that our VIDEOS give a good account of how the bands sounds and looks.  Additionally, the TESTIMONIALS page gives a good account of the vibe we strive to create.  There are times throughout the year when the band plays for public events, which are more appropriate for any viewings.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance and PAT testing certificates?

Kilter has both Public Liability cover and all PAT testing is up to date.  Both certificates are available on request.
